Always follow the instructions provided with the plants.  In the event that no instructions are available, use the following general guideline. 

Plant lily bulbs twice as deep as the bulb.  Loosen soil beyond the depth of the bulb.  Place bulb in hole pointed side up and roots down.  Replace dirt covering bulb, lightly pack dirt, then water.  The bulbs should get water about once a week for the first couple months.
